The City of Krems is once again announcing the Erich Grabner Prize for Contemporary Graphic Art for 2026. In cooperation with the Province of Lower Austria, the Rotary Club Krems-Wachau, the Friends of the Grabner Family, and Göttweig Abbey, outstanding artistic positions in contemporary graphic art will be recognized in several categories.
The prizes are awarded in the form of acquisitions totaling EUR 15,500 and include the following categories:
Prize of the City of Krems EUR 4,000 and a solo exhibition at galeriekrems
Prize of the Province of Lower Austria EUR 4,000 and a curated insight into the Art Collection of the Province of Lower Austria
Prize of the Rotary Club Krems-Wachau (for young artists up to the age of 27) EUR 2,500 and a curated insight into the museum collections of the City of Krems
Audience Award (donated by the Friends of Erich Grabner) EUR 3,000
Prize of Göttweig Abbey (for works in “classical” printmaking techniques such as relief, intaglio, planographic, and stencil printing) EUR 2,000 and a curated insight into the Abbey’s historical print collection is also planned.
Additionally: The works of this year’s prize winners will be presented next autumn at the art fair PARALLEL 2026 in Vienna.
By participating in the competition, artists agree that—if selected—the submitted work or series will be made available to the respective prize sponsor. This is carried out in the form of an acquisition or as part of further prizes such as exhibitions or residencies.
